The End of the Ice

Ice Goes Out, acrylic, 6×8 © 2009 Michelle Basic Hendry (available here or at the Small Paintings Blog)
The ice for the Winter of 2009 is out.
After a stunning day on Friday, where we reached 24 degrees celcius, the last of the ice has melted away. This painting and the photo below are the last of it. What a difference a few days can make!
The sound of snowmobiles gives way to the sound of outboard engines in less than a month. The first insects were flying around too. Nothing is biting yet, though – and I have yet to hear the loons call. But even so, Summer is coming to Muskoka!

Lovely painting, and colours, reminding of the Magnetawan. I didn’t realize the ice would be around so long. It’s long gone where I live which is not so far south of you.

Both painting and photo are beautiful! The angle of the photo is amazing… Isn’t is nice to be able to say the ice is gone…seem such a long time coming this year!
When I look out at Lake Nippissing from where I sit it looks free of ice but I know that is not the case…hopefully by the end of the weekend!!

Simple yet dynamic! Loved the way you used colour and texture to take us from the harsh cold of winter to the soft warmth of spring. Bravo!

Jennifer Rose – Thank you! The ice got soft here quickly too. I am sure there were a few out on the bog lake that might have been difficult and dangerous to remove… Although the thought of them floating around is a funny!
Linda – Of course! Not much ice in Florida..
Thanks, Jean!
Ingrid – Thank you! Heather’s comment is testament to the fact that ice is still out there even now!
Heather – Thank you! After the temperatures today and the rain – it will be gone I am sure!
Thanks, Martin!

Both are lovely, but I adore the painting! Congrats on the impending arrival of Summer. The Spring migrators are heading through our yard these days. Our Winter visitors are gone.

Michelle,
For me, this photo is one of the best i’ve seen from you. The composition is very strong, the light near to be perfect and even the little flare (very difficult to avoid in such conditions) isn’t annoying.

Thanks, Lana!
Wow! Patrick… Thank you….

Lucky you, we had snow over the weekend…
Great image, I love the subtle color gradations and the warm tones.
