Granite at the Shore

Granite at the Shore
“Waubaushene”, 10×8, acrylic on canvas © 2009 Michelle Basic Hendry

One crisp November day, I went to Waubaushene on Georgian Bay and took a walk down the pier. The rocks sat in the still water in the light of the late Autumn sun.

Now, the snow has finally arrived. I realize that I was looking forward to the quiet it brings with it.

I enjoyed this very much. There’s a somber beauty to it. I love the little rocks on the top that appear to have broken free and and are flying away.

I stumbled across this page, did you know that Waubaushene is a native word meaning “where the rocks & water meet” you captured it so well!

Denise – I did not know that. I will be changing the name of the painting now. Thank you!! My grandmother was born there…

I like this painting Michelle…reminds of Emily Carr or Marsden Hartley…organic and impressionistic!
